Rozita Rohaizad
"Flavours of Malaysia", Rozita's performance title for MFest 2018 speaks for itself: her ability to weave between the genres of asli to pop, dangdut to jazz produces an eloquently delightful style unique to none other than this renown Malaysian artist. Rozita Rohaizad has represented Malaysia at numerous multicultural, jazz and keroncong festivals with 3 successful malay albums and singles under her belt and a new single pending!
Larissa Ping
This year, Mfest will be holding our very own Traditional Fashion Show judged by no other but the STUNNING Miss World Malaysia title holder Larissa Ping. Sarawakian lass Larissa Ping was crowned Miss World Malaysia 2018 after beating 11 other contestants. Now she will be at our Malaysia Festival to beat your hearts with her natural charming!
Pei Lei Wushu
Wushu, more commonly known as Kung Fu in the West, refers in general to all forms of Chinese martial arts.
In modern times, it has been used to more specifically refer to a collection of martial sports focusing on the performance of athletic routines and contact fighting based on Chinese martial arts. Wushu training emphasizes concentration, quickness, explosive power, and natural, relaxed movement, combining to provide a performance that is definitely not to be missed!
Grasio Silat
One of the deadliest martial arts combined with a background of strong spiritual training: Silat is an umbrella term used to describe traditional martial arts from the Malay Archipelago background which will leave you on the edge of your seat with excitement and anticipation.
The not-for-profit GRASIO Association focuses on the art of pencak silat, combining the grace and intensity of hand-to-hand combat, with clever moves of weaponry such as the traditional keris!
Sape Traditional
The Sape (in Kenyah dialect means ‘scratching’) is a traditional plucked lute chordophone family of instruments used by many of the Orang Ulu (Kayan, Kenyah, Kelabit), or ‘upriver people’, who live in the longhouses that line the rivers of Central Borneo and Kalimantan. Sape originated from the Long Nawang, Kabupaten Bulungan at the border of Sarawak, Malaysia, and East Kalimantan, Indonesia.
Mfest Fusion Band
Combining the sweet sounds of traditional Malaysian instruments with the familiar beat of modern genres, MFest's Fusion Band does exactly as its name suggests: merging songs from yesterday and today, painting familiar tunes with new styles you would never have imagined. The Mismatched Band
The Mismatch is a 6-piece band from Austin, TX. that combines folksome Americana tunes with a hometown groove, a bit of bluegrass, a dash of funk, and just the right amount of grit. Fronted by singer-songwriter Billy Wayne Roy, The Mismatch consists of raw and honest vocals, screaming fiddle, mandolin, bass, banjo, and drums that groove in the pocket. An Americana-Folk, Bluegrass, Rock-a-billy band that molds and bends the genres with their own thoughtful and unique twists.
